Alternative Energy Resources
Alternative energy resources give people the chance to enjoy their energy benefits in a clean way and save money in the process. The monthly electric bill is one of the biggest expenses and an expense associated with a lot of volatility. The cost of electricity increases often and with little warning, not only are consumers hit with increasing electricity costs, but if your area is hit by a storm causing damage to power lines, that cost will be added to your bill as well. It can be difficult to reduce these costs because electricity is such an important resource that fuels a home. Being without power for a day or two is a slight inconvenience, but when you are without electricity for a week or two, it impacts your life and business. You realize how dependent we are on the electric company. Conserving electricity usually involves finding and sealing leaks, weather stripping, replacing appliances that are energy hogs and changing habits – taking shorter showers and unplugging appliances when not in use. The additions of these projects to an already busy schedule can be inconvenient, and involves home improvement projects that those of us that are not particularly handy like to put off. So find a fun way to get these jobs accomplished and reward yourself when they are completed. The short-term payoff of completing these projects is worth the effort in savings and comfort and long-term if you move to an alternative energy source, you won’t need as much and then there is the positive impact you are making to the environment.
Alternative energy resources offer a variety of options for homeowners in managing their energy costs. There are three major alternative energy resources that people can take advantage of for their homes. More than a Tan The sun is a real energy powerhouse and technology has made it possible to extract energy from the sun and put it to good clean use. The best thing about solar energy is that even if you don’t have solar power plants in your area, you can generate your own electricity and hot water with solar panels. At the moment, that requires two separate technologies, but Dual solar panels will supply electricity and hot water from the same panel. We’ll talk more about that later. For maximum energy production, solar panels are usually placed on the roof and depending on the amount of sunlight and number of solar panels, solar energy may power the major components in your home leaving less dependency on other energy resources. Solar panels can be expensive to obtain, but you can minimize costs by evaluating and reducing your energy usage. Use less energy now and you will need to purchase less solar panels and that is quite a savings even if you decide to build and install your solar panels yourself which can be a fun DIY project. There is no shame in hiring a professional and their expertise may save you money. More information is available in the Solar Energy section of this site, including, what questions to ask and how to prepare for solar panels as well as the options of solar panels available. Blowing all around you You probably noticed how small towns in mountainous regions use windmills to provide power sources taking advantage of wind energy. If you live in a windy area you can get yourself a wind turbine of your own to generate electricity the same way windmills produce energy for those towns. Even if you are living in suburban areas, using wind energy may still give you an advantage. It is not as expensive compared to solar panels and there are even DIY kits available. Wind energy is one of the fastest growing alternative energy resources and there are a variety of sizes and shapes of wind turbines available. More specific information is available in the wind energy section of this site as to what you need to know, questions you should ask so you can be confident you have made a good decision. It’s in the ground Geothermal energy particularly for the homeowner has been in existence for 30+ years. People have been using geothermal heat pumps, which tap into the warmth of the ground temperature, and are available for use for everyone around the world. Geothermal heat pumps heat and cool your home and supply hot water. It’s not as cool looking as solar and wind power, most people won’t know that you are using it once it is installed, but no one can argue with the savings. Geothermal heat pumps can supply up to 70% of a home’s energy needs. More specific information, see Geothermal Energy on this site. You will find what questions you need to ask, and what you need to know as you investigate this alternative energy resource. For additional information specific to solar energy, we recommend visiting
